First Day of Spring in Manitoba, Snow, snow, snow, anybody want some? My son in law has a tractor with a blade so clearing driveways is easy, you just push the snow into piles, which will melt, then we will have floods. Oh well better than earthquakes.

We should have tulips by May. You folk in BC are probably gloating, cutting grass, planting flowers, tulips and daffodils in bloom. Happy Spring Day!

Spring????

I said I wouldn't discuss the weather unless we have a blizzard! Well guess what, this morning it rained, the rain froze, the roads are icy, and now it is blowing and snowing. Many roads are closed Spring is just around the corner but I don't know which one. In Winnipeg the flood forecasters are preparing for spring floods, filling sandbags, building up the dikes. The province purchased a "gizzmo" to cut holes in the ice in the Red River, to help prevent ice jams. Just watching the TV with the terrible news of the earthquake in Japan. I think I 'll take the blizzard.
Enough of the weather, how many of you collect recipes? My mother had a scrapbook full of recipes that she cut out of the local papers. I still have that scrapbook. Gord's mother did the same. Some of her recipes were handwritten. English Pork Pie which calls for one whole leg of pork, Everton toffee, Ginger beer and this one:
Tonic for Spring for the Blood
Puruvean Bark
Jention Root
Qussia Chips
2 Tablespoons Epsom Salts
1/2 Gallon Water

Boil slowly for 24 hours, strain
1 Wine glass, morning and night

Gord remembers his grandmother making this and having to drink the stuff.I have never heard of those ingredients.
Daylight Saving starts on Sunday! Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead!
