Manitoba is flooding! The ranchers on Peonian Point have had to barge their cattle to safety after the road flooded . Then they are trucked to new pastures, which are at a premium. Many cottages and homes on Lake Manitoba are ruined. It is heartbreaking to hear their stories. All residents of Lake St. Martin Reserve have been evacuated. Sandbagging, building mud dikes, are the order of the day. We have had rain and wind which doesn't help. The strong north wind last week wrecked the cottages and homes at Twin Beach, today the wind was from the south, and causing havoc on the east and north side of the lake. The 1997 was supposed to be the flood of the century, the 2011 flood has surpassed that one. and the worst news is that the crest is not expected till mid July.

Fairford Dam, this is the only outlet from Lake Manitoba and that water is roaring through. My favorite birds the pelicans are enjoying the fishing. The ditches and marshes are full of carp, who are spawning. Spring has been so late this year, lilacs are just blooming, lady slippers and cow slips are out, but no wild roses. but we have DANDELIONS! I have been told that the early immigrants from Europe brought the seed with them. Oh well, they also gave Australia rabbits.
I have been watching PBS they are showing ''the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary show" One of my favorites, I saw it live when it came to Winnipeg in 1992.

Flood

Have had a problem publishing my blogs! It seems whatever the problem was or is has been resolved. I wish the rain would go away! My yard is a lake, Glen has been busy pumping the water from the yard into the ditch. Ranchers, lakefront homes are all affected, especially on Lake Manitoba, where many homes and cottages were ripped apart, attacked by the fury of the waves and the north wind. Ranchers have had to barge their cattle off Peonian Point as the area became an island.
