Gimli

Gimli is located on Lake Winnipeg, home of the Icelanders who settled here over a hundred years ago after a volcano destroyed their part of Iceland . Fishing is a livlihood for
any, you can buy fresh pickeral, smoked fish and there is a retaurant with deep fried pickeral and chips on the menu. Visited a friend at Ponemah, we spent an afternoon here.

The Gimli Marina, and pier, with painted murals depicting the history of the area.

If you peek over the wall you will see Lake Winnipeg. A dying lake due to Algae blooms caused by run offs of the land where herbicides, and other chemicals drain into the lake. Action is being taken to alleviate the problem, but very slow, grain and hog farmers are being blamed as well as the many septic fields in the area. So people point a finger at the problem. Forgeting that when one points a finger, four point back!

That was back in June, Yesterday July 17 daughter Cathie and her grandson, my great grandson drove to Winnipeg to shop and go see the new Harry Potter movie. My treat, well the popcorn and drinks cost more that the movie. They have only one size in popcorn and drinks

which is huge. Guess where he wanted to go for lunch (he is 13 years old) ? MacDonalds of course. We were to learn his father does not like the big M. so long! Grannie Al.
